Custom Shirts & Embroidery, Explained Straight

We don't print or embroider anything ourselves. We compare the shops that do — pricing, turnaround, and who's actually good at what — so you order once and order right the first time.

10 Indy-metro cities covered
12 local shops compared
10 service types explained
Live pricing snapshot
Screen printing, 24 shirts $14–20 / ea
Embroidered polo, 1 logo $22–32 / ea
DTF transfer, small order $10–24 / ea
Digitizing fee (one-time) $25–75

Why this exists

Every print shop tells you their method is the right one. That's the problem.

Screen printers push screen printing. Embroiderers push embroidery. Nobody's wrong exactly — they're just quoting you the tool they own, not necessarily the best fit for your order. We don't own a printer or a machine, so there's nothing for us to push.

Real pricing math

Actual per-unit price ranges by quantity and method, not a vague "contact us for pricing" wall.

Independent, not a print shop

We're a guide, not a vendor. Featured listings are clearly marked — everything else is here because it's genuinely relevant.

Start with what you actually need

Ten ways to put a design on fabric — pick the one that fits your order

Quantity and artwork complexity decide this more than anything else. Each guide below breaks down realistic pricing, when it's the right call, and which local shops handle it well.

Pick your city

Local shops, sorted by where you actually are

A shop 25 minutes away on the far side of the metro isn't always worth it for a small order. Start with your own suburb.

Questions about this guide

Fair questions, straight answers

Do you print or embroider anything yourselves? +

No. Joe Knows Shirts is an independent guide — every order still goes directly to whichever local shop you choose. We don't take a cut of your purchase from the shop.

How do you decide which shops get listed? +

Shops that are publicly known to serve the Indianapolis metro and offer a relevant service are eligible for a standard listing. A small number of listings are paid placements, and those are always labeled "Featured" — nothing is presented as unbiased when it isn't.

Is it free to get matched with a shop? +

Yes. Submitting the quote form costs nothing and doesn't obligate you to order from anyone — we just pass your details to a shop (or a couple of shops) that fit what you're asking for.

What if I'm a shop owner and want to be listed? +

Reach out through the contact page. Standard listings are free to request; featured placement (top of the comparison page, added detail, photos) is a paid option.
